To menswear or not to menswear? That is the question. And the answer is yes.
Or do you guys even consider this menswear? I do, because it reminds me of when B and I were freshly dating and I’d wear his polo’s while getting ready! Four and a half years later, I still do!
I’ve always thought that a woman in a men’s button up was beautiful and interesting, but let’s be honest, it’s hard to actually style because of the fit.
In 2014, I hosted a Christmas Sip-N-See at my new home, and I searched to no avail for a traditional, Christmas colored men’s tartan dress shirt to style as a dress. I had it all worked out in my head, and nothing else would do! An over-sized dress shirt with a slim leopard belt (turned backward) to cinch the waist just right and my white heels to pull it all together. Did I mention I decided this was it a measly six hours before party time? To say the least, the odds weren’t in my favor. I’m a flighty person when it comes to my ensembles, but I’m usually able to pull off what I think up. Not this time (sigh).
The above is what I was able to come up with in a locally owned women’s boutique. A Carrie Bradshaw vision that quickly turned Paul Bunion on my ass (later styled here). Look at that hair poof!!! But damn, what I wouldn’t give to be that skinny again! That’s Kinzie, my best friend since 3rd grade. I bet she could have found a man’s dress shirt to fit! I’m still angry.
Anyway, when I saw this dress on the Revolve site, I carted it immediately because I loved the color and fit, but more so the $40.00 price point. It may not technically be “borrowed from the boys”, but it’s close enough for me.
Do y’all have any menswear items that you love?
