Camo. The print I hated my entire life. I loathed camo print. Growing up in Alabama it was worn solely for hunting. There was absolutely nothing glamorous about camo, and when it was worn, it was typically blood stained and accompanied by matching insulated boots.
Down here, people have to plan their weddings around football season and hunting season.
Allow me to elaborate.
Bobby’s sister was getting married. She’d set a date, payed the reservation fee, and announced it to family. Bobby, his brother, and their father all said, “That’s the day hunting season opens. We can’t make that. You’ll have to change it.” Assuming they were kidding, she went on. Neither of her brothers, nor father, attended her wedding. That’s unimaginable to me. Asshats.
I’ve heard these types of stories my entire life. It’s insane, and quite possibly where my hatred of camo originated from.
Reluctantly, I purchased a pair of camo print Hudson jeans last year, and much to my surprise, I love them and the numerous things you can style them with. I mean, there’s a difference in Mossy Oak and Hudson, let’s be real.
Once I got accustom to the jeans, I wanted a camo parka that I’d seen at a small online boutique, but they were sold out of my size. I found this camo “shacket” (currently sold out) at Express and ordered it immediately. I love it, but I will say that it wasn’t what I expected. I definitely think it’s more suited for someone of height (I’m 5′), but I’ve styled it as an oversized piece, so I think it works that way if you’re on the petite side like me. I’m not one for a body con dress (and I’m not talking those skanktastic Kim K ones, as I hope none of you readers wear those. I’m meaning anything form fitted), but something like this would look great over that type of dress.
How do you feel about camo? Do you have a love/hate relationship like I do?
